Hello! I’m Laurie, the founder and guide of Walking Through History Tours, where I bring London’s rich past to life with every step. My passion for the city’s history is deeply personal, rooted in family stories and a lifelong love for London.
A Family History in the East End
My family’s connection to London dates back to the 1860s when my Jewish ancestors settled in the East End as immigrants. One of my distant uncles even served on the Jewish Neighbourhood Watch during the infamous Jack the Ripper murders—a fascinating piece of history that continues to inspire my love for storytelling.
Growing Up with a Love for London
Although I grew up in Essex, London was a constant part of my life. Visiting family in the city ignited my fascination with its streets, stories, and historical landmarks. As a child, I was captivated by the depth and diversity of London’s history—a love that has only grown over time.
From Archaeology to Tour Guiding
After earning a degree in archaeology from University College London, I spent over a decade working in the West End, further deepening my knowledge of the city’s rich past. This academic background allows me to offer tours that are not only engaging but also deeply informed by history and archaeology.
A Personal Passion for London
Now, as a mother and home educator, I’m passing on my passion for London to my son. We frequently explore the city together, and I love watching him develop the same enthusiasm for its history. Sharing these stories with him—and now with you—is one of the most fulfilling parts of my life.
